7. Below are the data on the adsorption of fatty acids on silica gel from toluene solutions and on a non-polar carbon sorbent from aqueous solutions:
Silica gel - toluene Carbon sorbent - water
C, mmol/l A, mol/kg C, mmol/l A, mol/kg
Acetic acid 8 0.648 1.0 0.80
10 0.810 1.5 1.20
Propionic acid 10 0.276 0.5 1.24
15 0.430 0.8 1.98
Butyric acid 10 0.092 0.2 1.50
15 0.140 0.25 1.86
Assuming that the adsorption isotherm at the indicated concentrations is described by the Henry equation, show the applicability of the Traube rule and its reversibility in the adsorption of fatty acids on solid adsorbents. Explain the effect of the medium on the adsorption constant using Rehbinder´s polarity equalization rule.
